Puerto de Piedrafita. PR-AS 265

Description

La Paraya is the beginning of the route to Puerto de Piedrafita, a pass traveled since ancient times, which communicates the council of Aller with the province of León. From this locality we approach in a few minutes to the village of Yananzanes, and continue along the royal road that leads us to the source of Roseco. At the beginning of the route we notice the waterfall, whose purpose is to drive the turbines of the hydroelectric plant of La Paraya. A continued ascent takes us through the Rasteyu, the Quentu Posaorio and the sheepfolds of Campanal de Baxo and Campanal de Riba. We continue our walk and very soon we reach the Rocín pass, where it is worth taking a break to enjoy the
breathtaking views of the valley. We continue ascending and in a short time we find ourselves in San Pedro, a sheepfold that still preserves the remains of the arch that supported the entrance of a chapel that no longer exists. From this point we only have the last stretch of the road to crown the ascent to the top of Piedrafita, at 1,683 m altitude. The descent will be made by retracing the path of ascent to reach La Paraya, the starting point of the route.
